The Royal Mint, 23 September 2017
Some 27 members joined Sallie and Keith James of the Excursions Group for a morning visit to The Royal Mint, followed up in the afternoon to Cardiff Museum
Arriving at The Royal Mint, with sufficient time for coffee, before we went on a conducted tour of the facility, which proved to be very informative. Starting with the ingredients required to manufacture the various coins, the base manufacture of the coins, through to the final pressing, which we all use every day as the finish article. There was even time to purchase special coins for the grandchildren, and of course the obligatory photograph.
From the Royal Mint the coach (very comfortable, and one which we would welcome in the future) took us to Cardiff Museum, again arriving in time for either lunch in the restaurant or a picnic lunch. Two guided tours had been arranged, the first at 2.00pm, and the second at 2.45pm. Both guides made to tour highlighting a number of pictures by various well-known painters, both interesting and informative. At the conclusion members were able to continue viewing their own particular art form, finishing up with tea by some, before the coach arrived at 4.30pm to bring us back to Chepstow
Members wish to thank both Sallie and Keith for organising a wonderful day out, at two different venues, thereby keeping to the maxim of the Society, to educate and inform members. Thank you both. We are looking forward to the next trip. Sallie says “Where To”
